Willow
Salix fanatics
Willow (genus Salix) is a passion for us. With over 100 species and cultivars in our coppice nurseries, we appreciate the incredible diversity of form and function of this plant. Ranging from tiny ground cover to shrub to towering tree, there is a willow for every purpose you can imagine. Colors include jet black, red, orange, yellow, neon green and a variety of beautiful earth tones.

Willow thrives with both neglect and intensive management. Occasionally, a discarded cutting grows into a large tree before we even notice! Conversely, we have been cutting many of our plants back to the ground for over a decade, and they produce an abundance of new rods every year.

We get many inquiries about basketry willow, which believe it or not, is not something we ourselves do here at the farm (though we are happy to provide material to the talented fiber and basket artists we work with).
